Mount Merapi, Gunung Merapi (literally) Fire Mountain in Indonesian and Javanese), is an active stratovolcano located on the border between Central Java and Yogyakarta , Indonesia . It is the most active volcano in Indonesia and has erupted regularly since 1548. When to climb?

Climbing Mount Merapi is very popular not only among Indonesian but also foreign tourists.
On Summer, Early June to the end September is the best time to climbing Merapi. During this summer period the trek will be dusty, you need bringing for mask and sun glass to protect your lungs and eyes. on rainy season the official trekking open, but Climbing on rainy season will be more difficult because the trek slippery.
Merapi verry active volcano so You need ask to the guide when safe time to climbing.

The Trails

Mount Merapi is divided into 5 stations with the first station at the foot of the mountain and the fiveth station ( Pasar Bubrah ) 600m before the summit.

Altitude 2050m
3. Post 1 Watu belah
2302 m
4. Post 2 2534m
5. Post 3 Pasar Bubrah
Altitude 2550m
6. Summit
Altitude : 2930 m

Distance :
New Selo - Gerbang taman nasional : 1km
Gerbang taman Nasional - post 1 watu belah : 0,5km
Post 1 watu belah - post 2 : 0,6km
Post 2 -post 3 Pasar bubrah : 0,7km
Post 3 to Summit : 0,6km

Total distance starting point to Summit : 3.4km

Time
In normal and health physical take 3-4 hours up and 3 hours down. The best time to start trekking at 1pm,

Is it difficult?
The ascent to the summit does not pose any major difficulties regarding climbing skills. Only at some points the terrain is rather steep and rocky.
The hike is not technically difficult, besides the last part not clearly marked and so many route, you need information about the volcanic activity. To make safely and enjoyable hiking, climb with experienced guide are recomended.
